Why You Need To Know
The pH Level Of Your Skincare.
The pH level of the skin plays an important role in our skins overall health and its ability to function properly. The pH level of the skin is slightly acidic, sits just below pH 5.0 and is known as the acid mantle. Skin with a pH level lower than 5.0 performs and functions better and has a profound effect on the microflora of the skin, allowing the beneficial flora to stay attached to the skins surface where it performs its job of regulating the skins sebum and protecting the epidermis from external factors.
When using skincare products that have a higher more alkaline level, it causes the skin to move outside its normal range, wearing away the skins acid mantle and leaving it predisposed to skin problems such as dermatitis, eczema, acne and rosacea.
Think of the skin as a flat piece of paper, by using products with the incorrect pH level, it causes the skin to wrinkle up and create crevices which can become infected, by maintaining the skins correct microflora balance, we ensure the surface of our skin stays flat and therefore healthy.
This is why at Mel Millis, we work very hard to formulate all of our phytonutrient skincare products to match the skins optimum pH level of just under 5.0. To protect and maintain the skins microflora and ensure
the acid mantle stays healthy.
